On Film

karderio_computer_screenI saw a film being beamed on the big screen today,

Based on an old tired play.

In it a little boy was all alone…

His heart was turning to stone…

And the people cried and the people gasped, “How could they be so cruel?” Even one dared to ask.

They hissed and booed, they shaked their heads, they cried their tears when the boy wound up dead.

But then I seen them walk out of the show, every single row, and conjugate on the street where a little boy with a sign said he had nothing to eat, they looked to their left, they looked to their right, anything to avoid that horrible sight, then engines revved and they beat their feet, all going home to grab a ‘bite to eat’…

We love our heroes and we love our fools,

Those people that break the right rules,

We despise the villain and we pity the weak,

We curse the sinners and we pray for the meek.

We want happy endings and romance undenied,

We want our put down swelling with pride,

We have no prejudice and attack improper pride.

But only on film.

Only in the darkened rooms.

But only on film.

Right after the coming soons.

But only on film.

I was watching a TV in a waiting room,

Hoping my turn was about to be soon.

In it the war was on based on a bias…

And the persecuted in it said “come on and try us…”

And the people cheered when justice was finally served, the black hats got what they deserved.

They smiled wide when victory was just, they beamed outward with the pride of that secret trust, washed the soul of rust.

Then a fight started to begin, based on the color of a man’s skin, then a boy jumped in and was told to ‘sit his faggot ass down’, and everyone’s smiles turned to frowns, the room was in eruption based on ignorant combustion, and on that TV screen, in the middle of the battle, were the victors of justice getting medals, but what was before my eyes is where we settle…
